Monitoring and Evaluation Compendium
Prepared by: Alexandra Pittman
Overview of the M&E Compendium
The M&E Compendium provides an overview of some of the main M&E frameworks, approaches, and tools used to track social change and justice. The aim is to gain deeper insight into the different M&E frameworks that can be used and adapted to capture the complexity of changes in women’s rights and gender equality work. As such, we provide a brief overview and critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of some of the leading M&E frameworks, approaches, and tools. The strengths and weaknesses analysis have been written from the perspective of trying to capture the complexity of changes related to women’s rights work, building on the work of Capturing Changes in Women's Realities. The assessments made are fairly specific and not all-encompassing, nor are they intended to be. We encourage women’s rights organizations to add their own analysis and experiences to this wiki!
The Compendium is intended to be a living document, and this is the beginning stage of that life. It has been designed to be updated regularly by members of the women’s rights community. If you have other frameworks, approaches, or tools that you would like to add please, provide your own summary, strength and weakness analysis, and links to the original source either upload it yourself or send to us for upload. In addition, if your organization has worked with any of the tools, please feel free to add your own experiences, assessments, and critiques in the comment section or add directly to the bulleted list of strengths/weaknesses in the summary itself. The more information we share about the tools and their past and potential uses, the stronger our M&E practices will become.
